"The Practice of English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) around the World" is an edited volume that explores the use of English as a medium of instruction in various regions. The book presents eleven empirical papers that examine EMI in different areas, including Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, North Africa, Southern and Western Europe, Central Asia, South-East Asia, Latin America, Eastern and Central Europe, East Asia, South Asia, and Nordic/Baltic countries. The findings reveal a consistent trend across regions, with institutions adopting EMI to enhance their international profile and generate revenue from international students. However, students and teachers often face challenges due to insufficient language proficiency and preparation. The book recommends addressing these issues to fully realize the potential benefits of EMI. [Extracted from the article] |
