This study was intended to analyze farmer's mitigation strategy and adaptation mechanisms in order to lessen the adverse effects of climate change in Aceh Besar region, Indonesia. We classified them based on the 'Oldeman' principles. Based on the 'Oldeman' classification, thus, we calculated the average monthly-and yearly-air temperatures. Results showed that there is a strong tendency that climate change has been occurred over the past 31 years in Aceh Besar. This was shown by the changes in the climate from E2 to D2 types in Blang Bintang Sub-districts, Aceh Besar. From the data, this can be inferred that an increasing tendency of precipitation and average temperature, respectively. SWOT analyses explored that the existence of pest and biological attacks or diseases as well as supply of High Yielding Varieties (HYV) that are persistent to various biotic stresses are classified as the biggest challenge or threats. Meanwhile, irrigation systems, sowing period that is still in line with the precipitation calender, sufficient or application of the right amount of organic fertilizer, the need to ensure sustainable protection in the upstream watersheds, the need for an Islamic sharia agricultural insurance program, and accelerate the adoption of farming technology.
