A recent study conducted by Johns Hopkins University examined the factors associated with and the survival impact of documented radiation therapy (RT) refusal among patients with gynecologic cancers. The study analyzed data from the National Cancer Database and found that older age, Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander race, and increased morbidity were positively associated with RT refusal, while Hispanic ethnicity, having insurance, and higher annual income were negatively associated. The study also found that RT refusal was associated with a significantly higher risk of death. The researchers concluded that targeted interventions are needed to address potential sociodemographic barriers to receiving RT. [Extracted from the article] |
