A study conducted at Emory University explores the relationship between discrimination, sexual violence, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among Black women. The research suggests that discrimination exacerbates symptoms of depression and PTSD, particularly for sexually victimized Black women. However, the study also found that social support from friends can moderate the association between discrimination and depressive symptoms among sexually abused participants. The findings highlight the importance of addressing discrimination and providing social support to mitigate the negative effects on mental health in this population. [Extracted from the article] |
