Abstrakt: A recent analysis of 5.8 million Americans has found that earning a college degree is still a worthwhile investment, despite rising tuition costs and a changing economy. The study, published in the American Educational Research Journal, compared the economic benefits and costs of a bachelor's degree to those of a high school diploma. The researchers found that earning a degree provided a rate of return on investment of 9.88% for women and 9.06% for men, based on median earnings. The study also found that the rate of return varied across college majors, with engineering and computer science majors having the highest returns. Additionally, female graduates generally had higher returns than male graduates, and college graduates from racial minority groups had slightly higher returns than White graduates. The study suggests that selecting majors with high returns is a sound financial decision, but students pursuing majors with lower returns may want to consider additional training or education to improve their job prospects. From a public policy perspective, policymakers may consider increasing financial aid for students in majors deemed essential to society but with low returns. The study also predicts that the variations in returns across college majors will persist or even increase as technology advances and shapes the demand for skills. [Extracted from the article]
