Abstrakt: A recent report from the University of Pennsylvania discusses the use of whole blood resuscitation in military medicine. The research highlights the growing body of literature supporting the use of whole blood for hemostatic resuscitation in trauma cases. Different types of whole blood, such as warm fresh whole blood (FWB) and low titer O cold stored whole blood (LTOWB), have been found to reduce blood product utilization and improve early mortality without negative impacts on intensive care unit length of stay or infection rate. The study suggests that further research is needed to explore the cost, efficacy, approach, and patient-centered outcomes of whole blood resuscitation in cases of severe hemorrhage.
