Abstrakt: A study conducted by researchers at Ural Federal University in Ekaterinburg, Russia, has developed a new fluorescent dye that can detect the presence of Zn2+ in living cells and fixed sections of the rat pancreas. The dye, called probe 12, exhibited a fluorescence enhancement in the presence of Zn2+ and had a high binding constant for the cation. The researchers believe that this dye could be used to accurately locate pancreatic beta cells. Financial support for the study was provided by the Council on grants of the President of the Russian Federation. [Extracted from the article]
