Abstrakt: | A study conducted by researchers at Minia University provides new insights into variceal bleeding in patients with HCV-induced cirrhosis. The study aimed to assess the coagulation changes in cirrhotic patients with variceal bleeding using rotational thromboelastometry (ROTEM). The results showed that cirrhotic patients with variceal bleeding frequently displayed a hypocoagulable state triggered by thrombocytopenia and/or hypofibrinogenemia. The study suggests that clot formation time (CFT) measured by EXTEM and INTEM could serve as markers for disease severity and prognosis in cirrhosis patients, as well as predict the occurrence of variceal bleeding. However, further large multicenter studies are needed to confirm these findings. [Extracted from the article] |
