A new study conducted by researchers at Sichuan University in Chengdu, China, explores the immune pathogenesis of idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (IGM), a chronic inflammatory disorder of the breast with unknown causes. IGM presents with symptoms such as skin redness, breast mass, and mastalgia, and can be mistaken for breast abscesses or malignancies. The prevailing theory suggests that IGM is an autoimmune disease, as some patients respond well to steroid treatment and have concurrent autoimmune conditions. The study aims to elucidate the autoimmune-favored features of IGM and propose immunotherapeutic strategies for managing the condition. [Extracted from the article] |
