Abstrakt: This article discusses a study on the lower airway microbiota in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) compared to healthy controls. The study found that patients with COPD had an altered microbial balance, with bacteria from the Firmicutes phylum being favored. However, these differences could not be linked to smoking or the use of inhaled corticosteroids (ICS). The authors suggest that further research is needed to determine whether these differences are pathogenic in COPD or a result of the disease. The study received ethical approval and the data are available in a public repository. [Extracted from the article]
