Effect of Isothermal Treatment on the Structure and Hardness of Pseudo-β Titanium Alloys.

Abstrakt: The effect of the heating temperature and the holding time on the decomposition kinetics of the high-temperature β phase in VT22 and Ti-5553 titanium alloys is studied. The conditions of hardening heat treatment to achieve a hardness of 50 HRC are determined. The changes in the hardness during subsequent heating in vacuum to 580°C, which imitates the process of vacuum ion–plasma nitriding, are studied. Additional heating is shown to decrease in the hardness of the alloy by 1 HRC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
