The article provides a historical account of the Doukhobor community's involvement in the jam-making industry in Grand Forks, British Columbia. The Doukhobors, a pacifist agriculturalist group, established a large-scale cannery and evaporator plant in 1924, producing canned and dried fruit. In 1935, they built the Kootenay-Columbia Preserving Works jam factory, which unfortunately was destroyed by a fire suspected to be the work of a dissident within the community. Despite this setback, the Doukhobors remained active in the fruit industry in the area. [Extracted from the article] |
