Abstrakt: To enhance the physical and chemical properties of natural rubber (NR), a modification process was employed involving graft copolymerization with maleic anhydride (MA) monomer. The grafting procedure utilized variations in maleic anhydride and peroxide concentrations through a melting method. Two different peroxides were employed as initiators. Analyses involving FTIR, XRD, and thermal properties were conducted. A distinctive peak absorbance at 1710 cm-1 indicated the presence of a C=O carbonyl group in the NR-g-MA sample. The carbonyl index suggested a higher grafting of MA to the rubber with an increase in MA concentration. The optimal grafting degree was achieved with a peroxide concentration at a 0.05 molar ratio to MA. Conversely, elevating the concentration of DCP to a 0.1 molar ratio to MA reduced grafting degree but resulted in a higher gel content, indicative of increased rubber cross-linking. DSC analysis revealed that NR-g-MA exhibited a higher melting point compared to pure rubber, attributed to the cross-linking process within the rubber. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
