Abstrakt: The study examines the activities of the commission for so-called small genres or popular music, which functioned within the composers' section of the Union of Czechoslovak Composers in the 1950s and 1960s. It focuses on the activities of the commission in relation to the management of the genre in question, considering the career of one of the most important Czech pop music composers of the 1960s, Bohuslav Ondráček (1932-1998). Based on the analysis of archival and other sources, the study discusses the process of Bohuslav Ondráček's admission as a member of the Union and the composer's work within the institution. The second part of the study deals with the first edition of the Bratislava Lyra Festival in 1966, which was one of the most prominent organisational activities of the Union in the 1960s and which launched Bohuslav Ondráček's international career.
