Abstrakt: Argues that the muscle pump is not an important factor for muscle blood flow during exercise. Magnitude of contraction-elicited changes in blood flow seen to be far greater than can be accounted for by putative changes intravascular pressure; Time course of changes in blood flow not correlated with that predicted from the muscle pump; Muscle contractions unable to evoke an increase in muscle blood flow in the absence of vasodilation.
