This document is a closure to a previous paper titled "Modeling Lifetime Performance of Monopile Foundations for Offshore Wind Applications." The closure addresses questions about the hyperplastic accelerated ratcheting model (HARM) discussed in the original paper. The authors explain that while the stress state in the model is defined by the total values of strain, plastic strain, and plastic ratcheting strain, the elastic response may depend on the plastic strain state and variation in the plastic hardening stiffness. They also discuss the advantages of the hyperplastic approach and the challenges of using three-dimensional finite-element analysis. The closure concludes with comments on gapping in pile-soil analysis and the "acceleration method." [Extracted from the article] |
