Dr. Frederick Wainwright was a pioneering archaeologist in post-war Scotland who made significant contributions to the field. He focused on understanding the Picts and their predecessors in the agricultural lowlands of Angus. Wainwright organized conferences, conducted fieldwork, and published important works, including his book on souterrains. He also established archaeological summer schools to bring new research to wider audiences. Despite his untimely death, Wainwright's contributions to Scottish archaeology deserve recognition and laid the foundation for future endeavors in the field. [Extracted from the article] |
