Abstrakt: A recent study conducted at North Bengal Medical College and Hospital in West Bengal, India compared the effectiveness of oral gabapentin and oral pregabalin in attenuating the sympathetic surge caused by laryngoscopy and endotracheal intubation. The study involved 90 patients aged 18-45 years who were randomly assigned to receive either 600 mg of oral gabapentin or 150 mg of oral pregabalin one hour before surgery. The results showed that gabapentin was more effective than pregabalin in reducing the hemodynamic surge at 3, 5, and 10 minutes after intubation. However, there were no significant differences between the two groups in terms of post-operative sedation and adverse effects. This research provides valuable insights into the use of premedication for laryngoscopy and intubation procedures. [Extracted from the article]
