A study conducted by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine has found that anemia is strongly associated with postpartum hemorrhage and the risk of death or near miss in women. The study analyzed data from the World Maternal Antifibrinolytic-2 trial, which enrolled women with moderate or severe anemia giving birth in hospitals in Pakistan, Nigeria, Tanzania, and Zambia. The research highlights the need for attention to the prevention and treatment of anemia in women of reproductive age, particularly in low-income and middle-income countries where the majority of deaths from postpartum hemorrhage occur.
