A recent study conducted by researchers at South Valley University in Egypt examined the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of self-medication (SM) among the general Egyptian population. The study found that SM is prevalent in Egypt, with 62.8% of participants reporting practicing SM in the previous three months. The most commonly used medications for self-medication were painkillers, antibiotics, and antipyretics. The study also revealed that females and individuals working or studying in the medical field had higher knowledge and were more likely to practice SM. The researchers emphasized the importance of raising awareness and encouraging physician consultation to address this public health issue. [Extracted from the article] |
