A recent study conducted in Zamora, Spain, examined the influence of immunosuppression caused by new rheumatological therapies on hepatitis E virus infection in a 54-year-old male patient with an anti-synthetase syndrome. The patient had been undergoing treatment with methotrexate and rituximab. The study found that the patient experienced acute hepatitis E infection, which was confirmed through laboratory tests and imaging. Treatment with ribavirin and supportive measures led to significant clinical improvement. The researchers emphasized the importance of considering hepatitis E in patients with autoimmune conditions, particularly when initiating immunosuppressive therapies. [Extracted from the article] |
