A new report discusses research conducted at Olabisi Onabanjo University in Nigeria on the therapeutic effects of Bambusa vulgaris, a species of bamboo, on motor deficits and non-motor co-morbidity in rats treated with haloperidol. The study found that B. vulgaris extract improved motor and non-motor functions in the rats, increased dopamine concentration in the brain, and decreased pro-inflammatory cytokine levels. The researchers concluded that B. vulgaris extract may reverse the effects of haloperidol-induced motor deficits and non-motor co-morbidity. The study suggests that the most effective dose was 200 mg/kg. [Extracted from the article] |
