A report from Thomas Jefferson University discusses the outcomes of intentionally suspending treatment in eyes with advanced neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD). The study included 93 patients with nAMD and found that there were no significant changes in visual and anatomical outcomes after treatment suspension for up to 24 months. However, a small number of patients did restart treatment. The researchers suggest that suspending anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) injections may be reasonable in cases where additional treatment is unlikely to provide benefit.
