New research from the University of Brasilia explores the effects of a high-fat diet on brain function and cognitive abilities. The study used a rat model to investigate the impact of a high-fat diet combined with a nitric oxide synthase inhibitor on mitochondrial markers and function, as well as cognitive function. The results showed that the rats exposed to the high-fat diet and inhibitor experienced metabolic dysfunction, particularly in the hippocampus, which affected spatial learning and memory. However, the neocortex was not affected. These findings suggest that a high-fat diet can have negative effects on brain function and cognition. [Extracted from the article] |
