Abstrakt: A recent study conducted in Paris, France examined the characteristics and correlates of seclusion and mechanical restraint measures in four psychiatric centers. The study found that seclusion measures mostly occurred after a patient's transfer from the emergency department and had an average duration of 10 days. Patients who were resistant to psychotropic treatments tended to have longer seclusion durations. Mechanical restraint measures had an average duration of 4 days and were more likely to be experienced by male patients and younger individuals. The researchers suggest that developing specific protocols for emergency departments could help limit the use of coercive measures. [Extracted from the article]
