Abstrakt: This article discusses a population-based study on the long-term mortality rates of patients who have undergone resective epilepsy surgery compared to non-operated patients with drug-resistant epilepsy. The study found that patients who had undergone surgery had a 30% reduced mortality rate compared to non-operated patients. Tonic-clonic seizures at follow-up were associated with a higher risk of sudden unexpected death in epilepsy. The study suggests that epilepsy surgery is an underused treatment option and emphasizes the importance of considering it for patients with drug-resistant epilepsy. [Extracted from the article]
