Abstrakt: This article explores the role of progesterone in breast cancer, emphasizing the distinction between causing breast cancer and stimulating its growth. The authors highlight the mutagenicity of progesterone and its ability to stimulate the synthesis of mutagens in normal breast cells. They also discuss the relationship between menstrual cycles, reproductive hormones, and breast cancer occurrence. The article suggests that hormonal contraception and menopausal hormone therapy do not significantly increase breast cancer risk, but long-term use of progestogen-only contraception may have a higher risk. The protective effect of pregnancy on breast cancer is also discussed, as well as the lag time between a mutation and breast cancer diagnosis. The authors propose further research to fully understand the relationship between progesterone and breast cancer. [Extracted from the article]
