Professor Steffen Bülow, a prominent figure in Danish colorectal surgery, has passed away. He graduated from the University of Copenhagen in 1969 and went on to become a specialist in Surgery and Surgical Gastroenterology. Professor Bülow made significant contributions to the field, particularly in hereditary colorectal cancer, and established the world's first national registry for Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP). He also introduced pouch surgery and total mesorectal resection for the treatment of rectal cancer in Denmark. Professor Bülow had a lasting connection with Lithuania, where he trained surgeons, performed surgeries, and established a Lithuanian FAP registry. He was well-liked by patients and received an award for his lifetime achievements in colon and rectal surgery. His dedication and contributions will be deeply missed. [Extracted from the article] |
