This article contains comments and critiques that refer to previous studies regarding the development of firefly ecotourism activities in Malaysia. Firefly ecotourism makes the element of insects as a product to attract tourists to see the natural beauty of insects that have been introduced since the 1980s. This firefly ecotourism is not only unique but also benefits the local community from the economic and social aspects. Previous studies have shown that firefly ecotourism provides positive benefits to local communities through the provision of employment opportunities, community side income, contributing to social well-being, and creating business opportunities. This article also highlights the related previous studies to the impact of firefly ecotourism activities throughout peninsular Malaysia on local communities. This article reviews the community support given through direct and indirect involvement in firefly ecotourism activities through the provision of services for visitors and cooperation in efforts to maintain the natural environment of the mangrove swamp which is a habitat for this insect species to ensure that this ecotourism can continue for a long time. The results of the comments and reviews in this article are suitable as a reference and guide for researchers who conduct studies related to the development of firefly ecotourism activities in Peninsular Malaysia as a whole.
