The article explores the phenomenon of tautomerism in isocytosine when exposed to UVC light. The study found that UVC light caused a specific type of tautomerism in isocytosine in water, with a certain rate constant. Two mechanisms of this tautomerism were investigated, with one being more likely. The research aims to understand the tautomeric behavior of isocytosine and its implications for the stability of pyrimidine nucleobases. The findings provide insight into why cytosine is chosen over isocytosine in nucleic acid macromolecules. [Extracted from the article] |
