This article investigates the effects of fluorine substituents on the efficiency of organic dyes in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The study synthesized and evaluated five organic dyes with different fluorine positions and found that adding fluorine mono-substitution in the ortho position enhanced the efficiency of the solar cells compared to meta-substitution and no substitution. However, di-substitution with fluorine atoms in two ortho positions and ortho, meta positions reduced the performance of the solar cells. The best results were achieved with dye 14, with a power conversion efficiency of 3.33%. The document provides chemical structures and spectroscopic data for the compounds, which are being studied for potential applications in various fields. The conclusion suggests that adding electron-withdrawing groups on the ortho position can increase the efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cells. The study was supported by Al-Karkh University of Science. [Extracted from the article] |
