EDM is a process of machining conductive materials by precision controlled in electrical discharge through a small clearance gap. Through EDM process, the electrical discharge energy will be converted into thermal energy which in turn causes the erosion of the workpiece. The discharge current determines the energy density used in erosion of the workpiece. During the discharges, the current pulse in used should be of a square pulse wave. In practical, EDM circuits tends to have parasitic components which causes the non-square waveform characteristics to the current pulses. In this paper, the simulation of a parasitic components is conducted capable to change the signal waveform and affecting the square pulse wave on the Material Removal Rate (MRR) characteristics. It is discovered that the parasitic component causes the discharge current to have transient current as well as in decreasing the MRR value. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
