Abstrakt: | A new study conducted by researchers at the University 'Magna Graecia' Catanzaro in Italy explores the sex differences in the progression from Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) to Alzheimer's Disease (AD). The study utilized a machine learning approach called Random Survival Forests (RSF) to analyze dementia biomarkers in male and female patients. The findings revealed that females had a higher risk of developing dementia, and there were distinct patterns of variable importance between the sexes. Common influential variables included brain glucose metabolism and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers. The study provides valuable insights into the sex-specific risk factors for AD progression.
