A report from the University of Washington discusses the research findings on traumatic brain injury (TBI), which is a significant global public health issue and a leading cause of death and disability in children and adolescents worldwide. The study aims to determine the efficacy of a protocol based on intracranial pressure (ICP) monitor-based management compared to care based on imaging and clinical examination without ICP monitoring in pediatric severe TBI. The primary outcome being measured is the 6-month Pediatric Quality of Life, with secondary outcomes including mortality, Glasgow Outcome Score, length of stay, and interventions for intracranial hypertension. The research concludes that alternate results should prompt a reassessment of how and in which patients ICP data should be applied in neurotrauma care. [Extracted from the article] |
