Abstrakt: A recent study conducted by Lund University in Sweden explored the association between certain cytokines and complicated pediatric appendicitis. The researchers found that children with complicated appendicitis had higher concentrations of interleukin (IL)-6 and IL-10, and lower concentrations of tumor necrosis factor beta (TNF-b). After adjusting for various factors, a higher concentration of IL-6 was still associated with an increased risk of complicated appendicitis. The study suggests that the systemic inflammatory response in complicated appendicitis is complex and not solely dependent on T helper (Th) 1-related cytokines. [Extracted from the article]
