Abstrakt: A recent report from Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich provides new insights into the architecture and dynamics of the Hydra nerve net. The Hydra nervous system is a simple nerve net that extends throughout the body column of the organism. The researchers discovered that there are two distinct nerve nets in the ectoderm and endoderm of the Hydra, and these nets do not contact each other. The study also found that the nerve nets consist of bundles of parallel overlapping neurites, and the growth and differentiation of the nerve net occur through the lateral addition of new nerve cells.
