Abstrakt: A pilot study conducted at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, explored the use of a novel brain-computer interface (BCI) system to treat chronic pain. The study aimed to reinforce frontal theta activity in six patients with chronic upper extremity pain using vibrotactile neurofeedback. The results showed that patients were able to increase their BCI performance and experienced a significant decrease in pain severity and interference. The findings suggest that BCI-mediated cortico-sensory coupling of frontal theta with vibrotactile stimulation has the potential to alleviate chronic pain. [Extracted from the article]
