The University of Freiburg Medical Center has conducted research on autoimmunity, specifically focusing on rare congenital multi-organ autoimmune diseases. The research highlights the importance of patient registries in networking medical caregivers and researchers, particularly for rare diseases. The German genetic multi-organ Auto-Immunity Network (GAIN) registry has been developed to systematically collect data from individuals with these diseases, with 486 individuals currently documented. The registry aims to provide comprehensive documentation and link it to biosamples collected in the consortium, allowing for further research and potential inclusion of data on quality of life.
