The joint Italian-Uzbek archaeological activities began in 2008 and were concentrated in the Pastdargom district (lower course of the Dargom canal), just close to Samarkand. The main purpose of the project was to analyze the real archaeological consistency of a historiographically very significant macro-region of Sogdiana, between Bukhara and Samarkand, during the 6th-4th centuries BCE.
