Two unpublished paintings representing Bacco e Arianna and Il trionfo di Venere Anadiomene, currently owned by Enel spa, have been recently restored and studied extensively. The technical and critical analysis conducted has allowed to attributed them to the famous painter Sebastiano Ricci and it has permit dating around the second half of the first decade of 18th century. The two canvases of outstanding quality make an important addition to the catalogue of the Venetian artist and they are linked in particular to the rich production of mythological artworks, that Ricci painted especially for private clients. They seem to be "quadri riportati", probably made to decorate the ceiling or the upper part of the wall of a noble building, however not yet identified. The subjects chosen, represented in a sensual way, refer to the theme of love and in particular to the theme of nuptial love. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
