Abstrakt: Carbon ions have become an effective choice to destroy cancers, especially deep and radio-resistant ones, because of their unique biological and physical characteristics. However, the nuclear reactions that occur with the patient generate a variety of charged and neutral secondary particles responsible for the dose, especially beyond the Bragg peak, which requires a comprehensive characterization. In this study, we evaluated the secondary particles produced by a primary carbon ion beam of 290 MeV/u and their contribution to the total dose, especially after the distal edge of the Bragg peak.
