Maintaining primary teeth until they naturally exfoliate is extremely important in preventive and interceptive orthodontics. Losing a primary tooth or a set of teeth prematurely can have various consequences. If the primary second molar is lost before the permanent first molar erupts, it is recommended to use an intra-alveolar space maintainer. This article discusses the use of a distal shoe appliance in cases where the primary second molar is lost before the permanent mandibular first molar erupts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
