Abstrakt:	This article explores the challenges and opportunities of variable renewable electricity supply in the future electricity market. It discusses the intermittent nature of renewables and suggests using a merit order to determine the best business case for using excess electricity. The article also explores different technologies and sectors that can benefit from the oversupply of electricity, such as flexible demand options, hybrid heating and thermal storage, storing or transporting electricity as power, and producing green hydrogen. There is a potential multibillion-euro opportunity in harnessing the oversupply of renewable power, and all players in the energy market need to consider changes to the current market design to unlock its value.
