A recent report from Cardiff University in the United Kingdom discusses the potential use of catnip essential oil as a natural mosquito repellent. The study found that catnip oil, specifically the compound nepetalactone, was effective at repelling the mosquito species Aedes aegypti. Even at low concentrations of 2%, the oil repelled over 70% of mosquitoes for up to four hours. These findings suggest that nepetalactone could be a natural alternative to synthetic mosquito repellents, providing protection against vector-borne diseases. [Extracted from the article] |
