Researchers at Sichuan University in China have conducted a study on Acinetobacter, a type of bacteria that is resistant to multiple drugs. The researchers focused on bacteriophages, which are viruses that can infect and kill bacteria. They discovered a novel lytic phage called vB_Ab4_Hep4 that specifically infects Acinetobacter baumannii strains. They also identified a spontaneous mutant of the phage, vB_Ab4_Hep4-M, which had an expanded host range compared to the wild-type phage. The study provides new insights into extending the host ranges of phages by modifying tail tubular proteins. [Extracted from the article] |
