A recent report from Heidelberg University Hospital in Germany discusses research on small bowel malperfusion (SBM) in the field of gastroenterology. The study aimed to find an objective measuring tool for quantifying SBM, as there is currently no standardized method. The researchers compared the use of indocyanine green (ICG) imaging, hyperspectral imaging (HSI), clinical evaluation, and conventional ICG imaging for visualizing avascular small bowel after mesotomy. The results showed that ICG-augmented HSI was superior in visualizing segmental SBM compared to the other methods. Further clinical trials are needed to explore the applicability and relevance of this technique. [Extracted from the article] |
