Researchers at the "Citta della Salute e della Scienza" Hospital in Turin, Italy have conducted a study comparing the performance of a convolutional neural network (CNN) using a single-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) to a standard 12-lead setup in identifying cardiac abnormalities. The study found that the CNN based on the single-lead ECG outperformed the standard 12-lead framework, with certain diagnostic classes showing no difference in diagnostic accuracy between the two setups. The researchers suggest that these findings contribute to the potential for large-scale screening of cardiac abnormalities using wearable devices capable of recording single-lead ECGs.
