Abstrakt: A recent study conducted by researchers at PMAS Arid Agriculture University in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, focused on the antimicrobial resistance of bacteria found in pus cultures. The study aimed to determine the pathogens and their susceptibility patterns in a tertiary care hospital setting. Out of 2,507 samples, 49.5% showed positive culture, with Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) being the most common isolate. The study emphasized the importance of generating a local antibiogram specific to the hospital setting to effectively manage infections and preserve the efficacy of existing antibiotics. By implementing antimicrobial stewardship practices based on a better understanding of antibiotic susceptibility patterns, the researchers believe that antibiotic resistance can be mitigated and patient outcomes improved.
