A recent study conducted by researchers at Jinan University in China reported on a case of cerebral infarction caused by invasive Klebsiella pneumoniae. The patient, a 54-year-old female with diabetes, was admitted to the hospital with fever and altered consciousness. Despite treatment with imipenem, the patient's condition worsened, leading to extensive cerebral infarction and multiple organ dysfunction. The study highlights the importance of selecting antibiotics that can penetrate the blood-brain barrier in cases of invasive Klebsiella pneumoniae, even before a definitive diagnosis is made.
