A recent study conducted by researchers at Los Alamos National Laboratory explores the impact of climate change on zoonotic diseases, specifically avian influenzas. The study emphasizes the need for surveillance programs and research on wild bird infectious diseases, particularly along the Mediterranean and Black Sea Flyway. By creating a threat reduction network in three countries along this flyway, the project aims to strengthen disease diagnostics, biosafety, statistical analysis, and vector sampling. The research concludes that building connected networks for avian influenzas and other pathogen surveillance will enhance global coordination and biosurveillance in wild birds.
